Sencha – a taste of Japanese tradition

Sencha is the most widely drunk tea in Japan and the most famous green tea in the world. It has a delicately sweet, strongly refreshing taste with grassy and buttery notes and a golden green colour. The word ‘sen-cha’ (煎茶) literally means ‘simmered tea’ and refers to the brewing process typical of loose leaf teas, which involves pouring hot water over the dried leaves. This tea best conveys its exquisite flavour and aroma when brewed with soft ph-neutral water. Moya Sencha no. 21 comes from organic cultivation on the island of Kiusiu.

Properties of Sencha

Sencha is recommended for drinking in the morning. It is characterised by its exceptionally high content of stimulating and metabolism-accelerating caffeine, as its leaves come from an early harvest. Along with other Japanese green teas, it is the richest source of catechins and one of the most powerful antioxidants found in nature. Drinking sencha contributes to slowing down ageing throughout the body, cleansing toxins, lowering bad cholesterol levels, keeping sugar levels normal, maintaining healthy teeth and gums and even improving mood.
