Bancha – Japanese tea for every day

A green tea with a yellow-golden hue, a sour aroma and a pronounced bitter walnut aftertaste due to its high tannin content. The name bancha (番茶) comes from the words “ban” and “cha.” “Cha” in Japanese means tea. The word “ban” can be understood as equivalent to “everyday” and “popular” or “late”. The second meaning refers to the late harvest, from which bancha leaves are plucked from the lower part of the tea bushes. Moya Bancha comes from organic cultivation on the island of Kiusiu.

Properties of Bancha

In Japan, bancha is considered an everyday tea and is often served with meals. It can be drunk all day as it contains about 70% less caffeine than gyokuro. It has a higher tannin content than other teas because its leaves undergo photosynthesis for a longer period of time. Tannins, or tannins, have anti-inflammatory, astringent and detoxifying properties. Along with other Japanese green teas, bancha is also a source of catechins and antioxidants. Drinking it improves digestion and contributes to slowing down ageing throughout the body, cleansing toxins, lowering bad cholesterol, keeping sugar levels normal, maintaining healthy teeth and gums and even improving mood. Its leaves contain well absorbed vitamin C, beta carotene, folic acid, potassium, calcium and phosphorus.
