Common sorrel (Dipsacus silvester) is a biennial plant of the sorrel family. It is common in Poland and other areas of Europe, as well as in Western Asia and North Africa. It grows wild, and is less commonly cultivated, although it sometimes enriches home gardens as an ornamental, or as a raw herbal material The raw materials used in supplementation are the roots, which are dug up in early spring or autumn, and the leaves, which are harvested in spring before the plant blooms. Due to its spiky stem, bristle is often compared in appearance to spotted thistle.
