Styrax essential oil is extracted from the incised stems of trees of the Styrax benzoin species. A suitable plant must be healthy and fully mature, and should be at least 10 years old. The main raw material used in the production of the oil is a resin called benzoin. Traditionally used in the making of incense, it is one of the oldest smoky resins in the world, an important medicinal raw material and an ingredient in perfumes.

Styrax oil – properties

The main ingredient in Styrax essential oil is benzoic acid, which is used most often as a topical antiseptic – it disinfects the skin and aids its regeneration, especially in small wounds and abrasions. Styrax reduces congestion of the respiratory tract, helping the body during infections. The product is useful in treating skin problems (excessive dryness, recurrent imperfections) and inflammation.

Styrax is often used by specialists during massage. It improves blood circulation, reduces the incidence of cramps, breaks down deposits in the lymphatic system and…effectively relaxes. The sweet, warm, balsamic and spicy fragrance is famous for its grounding effect – it calms, harmonizes and improves mood.
