Amyris oil is extracted from the wood and smaller branches of the amyris tree (Amyris balsamifera L.) from the Rutaceae family. It takes up to a year before it is ready for sale, during which time the oil acquires its characteristic aroma and consistency. The scent is very warm, woody, sometimes sweet with cedar notes. It is characterised by its high durability. It may resemble the aroma of sandalwood oil, but it is not the same product. The differences are significant, both in composition and effect.
Amyris oil – properties
Amyris oil contains a compound called elemol (approx. 9% of its composition), which has strong repellent properties. Studies have confirmed that it repels ticks and other insects. It is a great natural alternative to ready-made products.
The oil also contains valerianol (up to 21%, the highest concentration after valerian oil), which is known for its calming properties. It relaxes, reduces stress and creates a pleasant atmosphere. It is recommended in aromatherapy, especially for people who struggle with chronic nervous tension and anxiety. There are no contraindications to using the oil in a diffuser, traditional aromatherapy burner or during inhalation.
Amyris oil is commonly used in the production of perfumes, medicines, cosmetics and everyday hygiene products. You can easily take advantage of this by enriching your home products with a few drops of the extract – in the right concentration, it can have a gentle antiseptic, toning, astringent and skin-care effect. All this in one inconspicuous bottle.
